Questions, answered.
Everything you need to know before you book — from what to wear to what happens to your pots.
Classes & Booking
Do I need any experience?
None at all. Every session is designed for complete beginners — the assumption is always that you've never touched clay before, and Amanda builds from there. If you have done some pottery before, great, but it's not expected.
How do I book a class?
All sessions are booked via Square. Use the 'Book a class' button on any page, or visit the booking page directly. You'll get a confirmation email with everything you need.
How far in advance should I book?
Weekends and popular slots fill up quickly — we'd suggest booking at least 2–3 weeks ahead where possible. Midweek availability is usually more flexible. Gift card holders can book as soon as they have their card.
Can I book for two people?
Yes. 1-to-1 sessions can accommodate a guest alongside the main booking — it becomes a shared experience at the wheel. Group sessions are designed for 2–4 people.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please refer to the cancellation terms shown at the time of booking via Square. If circumstances arise, get in touch as soon as possible and Amanda will do her best to accommodate.
The Session
What actually happens in a class?
After a brief welcome and intro to the studio, you'll get straight onto the wheel. Amanda walks you through centring, opening and pulling the clay — then you make things. Tea, coffee and biscuits are always on hand. The pace is relaxed and completely led by you.
How long does a session last?
Most sessions run approximately 2 hours. Parties and events vary — these are agreed at booking stage.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you don't mind getting clay on. Aprons are provided, but clay has a way of finding its way onto things regardless. Avoid wearing anything you'd be upset to get dirty.
Is the studio accessible?
Please get in touch before booking if you have any accessibility requirements and Amanda will let you know what's possible and how best to accommodate you.
Is there parking?
Yes — free on-site parking at the studio in Capel-le-Ferne.
Your Pottery
Do I keep what I make?
Yes — your best pieces are selected, fired and glazed by Amanda, then returned to you when they're ready. Not every piece will survive the kiln (that's pottery), but you'll typically leave knowing 2–3 pieces are on their way.
How long before I get my pieces back?
Turnaround is typically 2–4 weeks from session date, depending on kiln schedules. Amanda will let you know when they're ready to collect or arrange posting.
Can I choose the glaze colour?
You can express a preference and Amanda will do her best to honour it. Glazes behave differently in the kiln, so results aren't guaranteed to be exact — but that's part of what makes each piece unique.
Are the finished pieces food-safe?
Yes, where stated. Amanda uses food-safe glazes on functional pieces. Dishwasher safety is noted per piece — if you're unsure, hand washing is always the safe bet for handmade ceramics.
Gift Cards
How do gift cards work?
Gift cards are purchased via Square and delivered digitally by email. The recipient uses the card code to book their session directly.
Can I gift a specific type of session?
You can add a note at purchase, or drop a message to let Amanda know and she'll ensure the booking is set up correctly.
Do gift cards expire?
Please check the terms shown at time of purchase via the Square link for current expiry policy.
Shop & Commissions
How do I buy from the shop?
The shop runs through Square. Use the 'Browse the shop' link on the shop page to see current available pieces. Stock is updated when new pieces come out of the kiln.
Can I commission a custom piece?
Yes — Amanda takes a limited number of commissions each year. See the commissions page for the types of work she takes on and how to start an enquiry.
Do you post orders?
Yes. Pieces are carefully packed for transit. Postage costs are confirmed at checkout or at time of commission quote.
