About Amanda

The potter behind Ceramic Love.

Amanda Hav is a Danish-trained master potter who's spent the last 15+ years teaching people to fall in love with clay — from complete beginners to those coming back for more.

Her studio in Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone, is the kind of place where nothing is too precious to try, everything can be remade, and the tea is always on.

The story

From Denmark to Kent

Amanda trained through a formal four-year Danish apprenticeship — part of one of the last master-craft cohorts of its kind. Qualifying in 2009, she brought with her a deep understanding of Scandinavian ceramic traditions: clean forms, honest materials and an emphasis on making things that work as well as they look.

After spending years working across Denmark and the UK, she settled in Kent — drawn by the light, the landscape, and a growing community of makers. Ceramic Love was born from a simple belief: that everyone should have the chance to make something with their hands, and that it should feel joyful from the very first session.

Today the studio runs a full programme of 1-to-1 lessons, group sessions, parties and events — all taught by Amanda herself, all beginner-friendly, all genuinely hands-on.

Teaching philosophy

How Amanda teaches

No experience needed — ever

Every session starts from zero. The assumption is always that you've never touched clay, and the teaching adjusts from there.

Doing, not watching

Demos are short. Clay time is long. You can't learn pottery by watching someone else do it.

Mistakes are the material

A collapsing pot is just information. Amanda treats every failure as part of the learning — which makes it feel much less like failure.

Joy is the point

Technical skill matters, but so does leaving a session feeling good. Amanda's classes are warm, relaxed and genuinely fun.
